Blackhill Emeralds GAA club extend our sincere sympathy to the Woods family following the recent passing of Tommy “The Bog Man” Woods RIP late of Corravoo. Tommy was a great local character and found fame in the mid 1980’s through the musical exploits of his band “ The Bogmen” Tommy and the band went “Viral” in today's vernacular playing to millions on Top of the Pops and the Terry Wogan Show on the BBC in 1985.
Tommy was a great supporter of our club over many years and he walked his donkey and cart from his home to Blackhill every June bank holiday Sports day so the children could get spins with the donkey which was always hugely popular. Tommy also very generously supported our Young at Heart committee and many a Monday night he would join the band and do a set to everyone's delight. In relatively recent years Tommy did hugely popular club fundraising concerts in our social centre. Tommy lived life his way and the gaelic seanfhocail “Ní bheidh a leithéid ann arís” seldom ever rang truer. Ar dheis Dé go raibh Tommy.
