Sincere condolences to Tony's family and friends, he is remembered so fondly by my family as he was great pals with my Dad Billy Kenneally , we have so many memories of Jake the Peg and Sonny boy as renditions whenever they were together or with Paddy Comerford with the Bird and Tony and my Dad were "the Birds" all now gone to their eternal reward ... thank you so much for all the laughs affection fun and good humor. may you rest in peace Tony .. I can see it now in my mind's eye what a singsong they are having .. God bless you x

I was so sorry to hear of Tony’s passing: a true legend of the GAA in Cork City.
I can see Tony striding purposefully through the gates at Church Road, a bunch of north side kids hanging off him, a bag of jerseys slung over his shoulder and a bundle of hurleys under his arm.
Eoghan Ruadh’s U-15s had arrived and in the 1950s & 1960s their black & amber jerseys ruled supreme in Cork City.
Tony Hegarty must be one of the last of that great cohort of clubmen who kept under age hurling thriving in city clubs. Every city club had a Tony Hegarty and it was these unsung heroes who gave us the great Cork teams of the ‘70s and ‘80s which we look back on so fondly now.
My sincere sympathies to his family and friends and to those Na Piarsaig clubmen who remember Tony’s heroic work for their great club.
May Tony Hegarty rest in peace.

My sincere condolences on the sad passing of Tony. He was a multi-talented entertainer - a Cork legend who will be sadly missed. I shared the boards with Tony for many years in the old AOH Hall and later in Cork Opera House - the great "Swans" shows in the 1970's. Worked with him in Summer Cabaret in Owenahincha for many years and in pantos in Fermoy. He was so funny and we thespians loved him. May he rest in peace.

Tony booked the bands for the festivals and provided the entertainment for the various shows. He delighted audiences both young and old at Christmas parties with his funny songs especially his 'Jake the Peg'. A great friend and all round entertainer who will be sadly missed. I have lasting memories from our under 12 days in Kilcully and the Fairfield right through to our County Junior Football victory over Dohenys in 1965, when we trained some cold nights in a field with one spot lamp, where Na Piarsaigh Club is today Tony guided us all those years.Those days were remembered during my visits to him in recent times. Sleep well Tony, your legacy will live on.
