We are fortunate to know Tony from years of swimming and GAA. He had that rare and beautiful gift of being authentic. He never felt the need to be anything other than who he was and he had a way of making those around him feel at ease. He was genuine, kind without effort, and loved a laugh. When I think of your Dad, the following flood to mind: Integrity, Honesty, Loyalty, Perseverance, Pragmatism, Work ethic, Cleverness, Kindness, Competitiveness, Passion, Encouragement, Curiosity, Humility, Community.. Knowing all he embodied makes it so hard to accept that he’s no longer here with us.

As the saying goes, Tony would put his head where others wouldn’t put a hurley. That was true not only on the field but in every part of his life.

I recall we first reached the senior division and after our first game, while most of us were simply happy to get the win, Tony sprinted from the far corner of Pairc Barróg to the dressing room, fists clenched, shouting “YES! YES! YES!!”. He was in the bar celebrating within 5 minutes. For him, it wasn’t just a win - it was everything. And so was the next game, and the next after that. His acute energy and drive for his team were unparalleled.

He inherited much of this from your Grandad, who dedicated years of time, effort, and support to hurling teams at Naomh Barróg. Together, they shared a special bond that left a lasting mark on me and many others in the club.

I took it for granted that Tony would always be there, shaping the future of Naomh Barróg through his commitment and I am so sorry that this has been cut short.

May Tony live on forever through the spirit he inspired - to finding your passion, to keep going, and to keep doing.
