For my lovely dad as this book closes, I couldn’t speak at your funeral- I knew I would have gone to pieces- but I want on record how much we loved each other - you were my person in the family and vice versa - and on reflection I am proud that I fulfilled my promise that you would not go into a home - selling up in Dublin, becoming dependent on carers allowance and moving back in at 50 something wasn’t easy on any of us - moments of frustration on both sides over the past few years - yours down to the disease - mine more about exhaustion- but we got there - and glad I was holding your hand when you left - I love you and miss you - but wouldn’t change the journey we went on- it was my privilege to look after you -despite some of the indignities you suffered-miss you daily and miss how loved you made me feel- but have the best memories of you and I walking and talking all over irelands beaches and parks, with various much loved dogs - we currently have 3 Robins in the garden - guessing you might be involved…….?
Tony , my neighbour through the last 28 years ..Abiding memories of him will be those of him standing in the front lawn, mower and faithful dog by his side , with always a wave and a smile. Stories of his glory days as a rugby player and working in Dunlop’s.
