My dear Father Ryan,

I send my deep sympathy to your sister and brother, to your Carmelite brothers and your devoted co-workers, and to all the many people who love you and whom you love. I know you will not forget us now.

Thank you for being so good to me, for supporting me in the apostolate of making Therese and Louis and Zelie better known and loved, and for everything you contributed to http://thereseoflisieux.org I thank God for permitting you to see the beatification of the Martin spouses, for you did so much to bring it about. I remember all your thoughtful phone calls gratefully. You did so much to bring St. Therese and Ireland together, but the influence of your work extended all over the English-speaking world. More than that, you are a truly Theresian soul. When I regretted that you could not travel to the beatification, I remember your complete surrender, so like that of Blessed Louis Martin.

You told me that after the extraordinary response of the Irish people to the visit of the reliquary of St. Therese in 2001, the Carmelites of Lisieux grafted an Irish rose onto the crown of roses that adorns the recumbent statue of St. Therese above her tomb. But now I think that it is in calling you that God completes St. Therese's crown with this perfect Irish rose.

"Ah! Brother, let me tell you: the good God has many a sweet surprise in store for your soul."

Your grateful friend,
