A heavy cloud of sadness settled over St.Anthony’s nursing home yesterday as residents and staff woke to hear of the passing of our dear friend Fr.Tom. It is hard to put into words just how special Fr.Tom was to all of us here. He was a friend to all, a confidant, a role model and an absolute joy to be around every day. Fr. Tom had a special way of understanding people who needed to be understood… he was gentle and kind, warm and caring, generous with his time and spirit but above all, was a man of great faith. He was always so thankful and greatful for all that was done for him here, Fr.Tom would co celebrate mass for us here each week with Fr.Liam and each Wednesday he would end the mass with words of thanks for Fr.Liam and the staff. He was a larger than life character with a beautiful personality but he had the most gentle soul. Fr.Tom spent his days amongst friends here, laughing, singing, enjoying the company of his family and former parishioners who were wonderful to call. We will miss Fr.Tom immensely, his absence is already felt by all of us who had the pleasure to know and care for him. Fr.Tom, we hope you are at peace now and finally being rewarded for all your good work done here on this earth. There is a special place reserved in heaven just for you, that we are sure of. Rest easy Fr.Tom.
