Lovely memories of old Lismore. Ger “Fopper” Stapleton as we affectionately called him. Cowboys and Indians behind the Protestant Church, Football on the Mall, Concerts in the Courthouse with Oliver and Annette, the Youth Club and the Cricket Club. Nice to read on this condolence page the lovely tributes of Old Lismoreans from his days growing up in our lovely village.

A voice calling from far away, Brazil actually São Paulo. Two Lismoreans who grew up together. ---- one from Fernville, one from East Main Street. I have but only the FONDEST and LOVELIEST memories of Gerard principally from our Primary School days at Lismore CBS with Br.Blake as our teacher. Gerard's inate KINDNESS and GOODNESS struck me as his two great traits.It was no great surprise to me that he would go on to the priesthood. I have no shadow of a doubt but he would have been much loved and respected by his Parishioners, wherever he served.My heartfelt sympathies go out now to all the Stapletons on the loss of such a WONDERFUL person and a truly GREAT Priest.You must all be so PROUD of him. Who are we to deny him the happiness of HEAVEN in the company of the Saints with St.Carthage of Lismore being the first to welcome him there ! AR. DHEIS. So sorry to hear your sad news . Gerry was a student priest in St John’s many years ago when we were friends . He believed in his calling and did a lot of great work in his life . I’m sure he will reap the rewards of this and send blessings to you all . May he rest in peace .

Father Gerard got a lovely send off today the Stapleton's a lovely family long gone out of lismore but never forgotten may father Gerard rest peacefully with those gone before him in his native lismore.

I wish to convey my sympathies and prayers to Gerry's families both in Ireland and Port Sulphur, USA. I offered Mass, this morning Oct. 27, for the repose of his soul. I remember you all in prayer during these difficult days. Gerry was a shining example of Faith, Compassion and Spirituality to all. "Well done my good and faithful servant". RIP.

Deepest condolences to Fr. Gerry's family, friends and parishioners of St. Patrick's Church. He will always be loved and missed by many. My greatest memories will be checking on him after hurricane evacuations and the years of gifting him "money for new clothes" I would give to him every Christmas which became our little joke.

Fr. Gerry was the wisest, funniest, and most generous person I’ve ever met. At times, he could be the most challenging as well. He was the best friend I ever had. Knowing him made me a better person. Life with him was a great adventure. I am grateful to God for bringing this beautiful man into my life. A true man of God! Thirty seven years, and I loved every minute!
