Although we lived two doors up (Glasheen's old bungalow) ! back then in the seventies you did not know you were young. I remember Jim giving me a swing of a cigarette outside the Pallotine College the year we did the 'Leaving' cc 1974 and me head spinning. We crossed paths for about a year at St. Pat's before he went on to ordination and I to emigration . We were never great friends but watching his funeral on line brings all those years back. He served his diocese and people well, that is his enduring legacy surely.

Sincere sympathy to the Irwin Family on the death of Fr Jim. We were classmates in St Patrick’s College, Thurles for six years, while studying and preparing for Ordination to the Priesthood. We were Ordained 12th June 1982 in Thurles Cathedral. I met Fr Jim on all my visits to Gortnahoe Parish for the Celebration of the Sacraments with my nieces and nephew. May God reward Fr Jim for his priestly life and ministry and his witness and bravery during his ill health. May he now rest in the happiness and peace of Heaven. I am remembering Fr Jim in my masses and prayers. I pray that God will bless and comfort his mother and his family at this sad time for you all.
