Very sorry to hear of Michael’s death. I was a student of his in the early Seventies and have fond memories of his entertaining classes. Despite the fact that we often crossed swords I must say that he always displayed the qualities of a true caring teacher even when annoyed. I am truly grateful to him for the qualities which he instilled in me and I hope and pray that the good Lord will give him an A+ in his last and final examination. He was a great person who inspired many generations. Condolences to his grieving family at this sad time. Gerry Cogan (Sligo & Dublin)

I want to offer my sincere sympathy to the Joyce and McGuinness families on the death of Fr (Canon) Joyce. Those of us who came under his influence and guidance, in the 70's and 80's, he had an immense impact on our lives. Having spent over thirty years in education, I now recognise that Fr Joyce epitomised what it to be a good teacher and minister.
Being from Swinford, I shared many conversations with him over the years. He always had a welcome for past students and remembered the minutest detail of your time in school. His death brings a great sense of sadness, but also gratefulness, that I, and so many others, were fortunate to have known and being guided by him.

Fr. Michael was a good priest, a good friend, ever helpful, kind and generous. He loved being a priest and was totally dedicated to his ministry.
He had a keen interest in sport and, both as a player and a coach, he was determined and enthusiastic and, true to his nature, his commitment was absolute and passionate.
Rest gently now, dear friend, in the peace and joy of the Lord.
