I offer my sincere condolences to Mary and family and to Breda and family on behalf of all the American and Canadian cousins descended from Alice Dignam and William O’Grady of Clara and NYC. Vincent was the first of the warm and welcoming Dignam cousins I met, back in 1978. He spirited me away to a roadside pub near Kilbeggan where, at the end of the evening, he responded to a customer’s request for a song by singing the most powerful version of “The Fields of Athenry” I’ve ever heard. The next day he took me to visit his parents, Susan and Billy, at Kilnabin. I was so happy to see Vincent again in 2014 and to introduce my wife to him at the wonderful Dignam family reunion in Clara. I will remember him as a bighearted cousin and a kind and generous man.
