I only got to know Vincent since the bookshop opened. A larger than life character and an endearing person. I would have liked to have spent more time in his convivial company. But when we did meet it was the most amazing artistic and intellectual experience. My sincere condolences to Mary and his extended family and friends.
My sincere sympathy to Mary and all the Murphy family on the sad news of Vincent’s passing. I had the pleasure of working with Vince when he led WoW Design in the late 1990’s in Dublin. Vince had a wonderful creative eye for design, and inspired both clients and the many talented people he worked with. He did it with a great sense of warmth and humour, and he was always a person you looked forward to meeting.

May Vince’s Gentle Soul Rest in Peace,
Dear Mary and the Murphy and Ruddy families, I am absolutely devastated to hear of the passing of my late and good friend Vincent. We became close collaborators in the production of my book, Community: A time, place, and people. He was a man of unlimited graphic design ideas and creativity aligned with a typical Cork humorous spirit and he is a major loss to our community. Without his expertise, patience and good humour my book would never have been possible and it was a unique pleasure and privilege to have come to know and work with him in his later years. My thoughts and prayers are with you Mary and all of the Murphy and Ruddy families.
Vincent , If from your spiritual plane now you can read this , know that I will miss you . A delightful friend you were extending back to the Crawford then Limerick School of A&D days where I saw you last 1982
Many years ebbed & flowed then before reconnecting our friendship again 2016 by chance seeing an Internet post of your achievements then a detective snail mail by me finding you in Connemara . Your reply letters & emails always so creatively interesting with your funny Cork humour thrown in as icing on top . One memory goes back to Crawford days when Gerry decided to film his cardboard sea battle sculpture , which took up nearly half the studio being set war like alight to music but he used so much glue it quickly spread angry flames. Gerry stood like a stunned mullet whilst I , Joan of Arc , rushed around madly looking for a bucket of water and you Vincent ,living the moment, just towered above us all with your great stance & laugh just cracking up . I think I extinguished it finally by throwing on drop sheets. The Crawford since 1823 was saved from ashes & ruin & another art student mad antic seeped into its old red brick facade . Thankyou Vincent for your genuine generous friendship. My world is less now. Enjoy all the wonderful ones up there. Wow what a creative journey you are on now .
And Mary be consoled that you met this wonderful man. Words never replace but be assured many hearts travel with you in your grief. My sincerest condolences Mary . Vale Vincent.
I lived in Ireland, Bishopstown as a little girl. Vincent lived across the street from us. Over the years I have wondered where he was and what happened to him. I happened to come across a picture of us as kids. I posted it to Facebook where a friend of mine sent me the obituary for him.. I was so upset. He was adorable, and so spoiled.. he used to make me laugh, but I played with him all the time. I sent a message to his wife Mary on Facebook. Please be sure she gets this message to look me up on Facebook.. how I wish I found him years ago. I traveled all the time with Delta Air Lines. I would have loved to have met him and his family. Warm Regards to the Murphy Family.
