Only heard this evening of Walter Passing. We were work colleagues and friends for many years in the National Botanic Gardens.

On behalf of Hilary & myself I wish to extend our deepest sympathy to the Murphy family on the sad passing of Walter.He was always a true gentleman to his finger tips and I have very happy memories working with him in the Botanic gardens & playing football with our junior team Glasnevin shamrocks He was a tough cookie on the pitch.May his gentle soul rest in peace

Had a fabulous day in beautiful sunshine yesterday reflecting and reminiscing on events, friendships, and the carefree days as a student of horticulture at Glasnevin many years ago, only to be saddened on hearing about the passing of Walter.

Heartfelt condolences to family and all who knew and loved him.

Such a skilled and experienced horticulturist who possessed a deep understanding of plants and their care, and who could effectively apply and pass that knowledge on to students fortunate enough to have worked alongside him. Learning and valuable guidance made more impactful and memorable due to his practical ways.

Walter was our colleague and friend at the Botanic Gardens. He was always positive and optimistic and had an always "can do" approach to work. I (D" especially remember our Burren adventure. A sound practical man who was prepared to experiment and take a chance. Our sincere condolences to his family.
