So many wonderful and hilarious conversations with Walter in Kavanagh's Vartry House, he will be greatly missed.

I had the pleasure of knowing Walt back in East Coast days and he was a wonderful kind smart man. Those were brilliant times & our conversations about life, family, history & politics were fascinating. His smile and wit will stay with me. What a legend. Sleep well old boy.

Roundwood will not be the same without you Walter 💔
The night of your funeral I dreamt you were a white horse and that we watched you gallop across the brow of a hill and disappear into the great beyond, no doubt where another great adventure awaits xxx

A much loved uncle to me and brother to my late mum Frieda, who shared the same love of laughter and life. Our family's "gift of laughing" lives on through us all and my children, and I have such wonderful cherished memories. We all loved him. Condolences to Lee and Jan and all the family members. I spent a cherished holiday with him and my mum in Ireland, which I will never forget. A truly remarkable man I and am proud to be just a part of this family . xxxxxx

Walter and I became fast friends when we met at the annual East Coast Fm charity coffee morning in 2015. Since then we enjoyed many of our own coffee mornings and walk and talks. An absolute legend and inspiration, Walter taught me the secrets to life and living to its fullest. Rest in Peace Walt.

Uncle Wally, so very sad to hear this news. I have fond memories of our family gatherings. There was always much laughter... and many drinks! I'm sure my dad will have a pint waiting for you up there. Rest in peace.

I was very saddened to learn of the passing of my dear Uncle Walter. I remember him fondly as I was a football fanatic growing up and he was very well connected and managed to get me signatures of the famous football players of the time. He was always in great form and very funny with a great wit on all topics. I also remember accompanying my late father on a trip to Ireland in 1996 when Walter was working at East Coast Radio and I would go down and meet him for drinks at lunchtime and after work! He will be sorely missed and I'll leave him to enjoy his Guinness now upstairs!

He was so kind to all my children over there younger years and we are very much heartbroken with his passing. So very sorry to hear this sad news. My late husband Bernard was Wally's brother in law, sadly we lost Bernard 20 years ago. Wally was such a good man, i don't think anyone has ever made me laugh like he did, a born comedian. The times that Bernard and Wally played golf at Preston Golf club and came home having spent most of the time on the '19th'. Rest in peace Wally.

The Irish coffees will never be the same.
Whether it was in the rough at Killarney, in bunkers at Lytham,
hitting water in the Algarve or the dunes in Ameland, there was
so, so many tears, and every single one a tear of laughter.
We all have our own Walt stories and we will keep ours alive
in the club houses everywhere.
Like a pressure putt Skipper we will all miss you badly.

Many great memories of Walter working in Eastcoast Radio from back in our Dusty Miller's days. Always great company and i was lucky to get a few rounds of golf in together over the years.

So sorry to hear this news. Walter was a colleague of mine many years ago in East Cost. I subsequently met him occasionally in RTÉ, where he worked as an extra on various programmes. A wonderfully warm character, we shared a love of Sport. I loved listening to his many and always entertaining stories. Condolences to friends and family.
