Walter (Wattie) Rockett

Very sorry to hear of Mr Rockett's death. He was careful, enthusiastic and inspiring as a chemistry teacher. It was wonderful to meet him years later at the National Concert Hall (Verdi's Requiem) and feel his gentle humanity. A special person, pleasant to recall.

I had Walter for leaving cert chemistry, and I would say that he was one of the best teachers that I had in my time there. He took the time to explain the subject, and put everything that he had into making sure that his students had the best possible chance of succeeding. He taught by inspiration rather than intimidation. He was a genuinely nice guy, and you'd look forward to his class. RIP Wally

One of the kindest, most sincere, gentle souls I have ever known, who always listened to understand and was so so thoughtful in his spoken words and written letters. A wonderful & important example to us all on how to be.
Wattie was a wonderful granduncle who gave my family such lovely memories of our visits, chats and phonecalls together. He loved to chat about how Eddie and I did in school, university and in life. Wattie & I enjoyed sharing & comparing teaching stories and school ethos together. Thinking of you dear Granny especially at this sad time x

From the time I first met Wattie in the late 1980s, he and I had many engaging conversations, during which his wisdom and humility always shone through. A man of gentle wisdom RIP Uncle Wattie

A former pupil, such a great teacher, l learnt a lot from Walter.

The definitive gentleman and scholar. Walter was endlessly patient, kind and helpful to me when I started in Templeogue College and continued to inspire me thereafter. I have only the fondest memories of him.

It was a privilege and a joy to have known you, Walter. Sorry I can’t be there to say farewell. Rest well gentle soul.

Sad news indeed. He taught me chemistry in Templeogue college back in the early eighties and was such a positive good natured person. One of life’s true gentlemen and the world is a poorer place for his passing.

It is sad to hear of Walter's passing. He was a very well respected teacher for us in Templeogue College. Never in the Chemistry laboratory without his white coat on. Overall he had a very calm demeanour as he taught his classes. Very fond memories of him indeed. Class of '79.
