William (Bill) Deasy

Mo chomhbhrón do Pheig, gaolta Bill, Claire, Terry & Margie. Lovely memories of growing up, doing everything on the farm (especially picking stones!). Aided by Dan Desmond RIP. So sorry that I could not go to his funeral. Bill was part of what we were. Long days @ c. 8am to 10 pm sa Samhradh. "We'll thin/pull a few more before supper".

We did all things Sunday go Sunday. Playing football in O’Donovan’s field above the house. Cupán tae from Mother Deasy. Winter Sundays with the Western Hunt when his father Jim was always able to raise a hare if Paddy Q could not find one.

Caid west in the field dé Domhnaigh with Mike & the O’Flynns. Tommy would join in and use muscle rather than skill. The bowling from Change Hill to Mt. Eyrie gate etc. The local collection to buy a leather football. Half a crown would have been a huge contribution.

The (in)famous Munster Final in Limerick in 1960 (C v T). I dd not go, thus the story of breaking in the gates was exaggerated for me. One man drew the crowd!

The skidding tractor incident on the hill near the flax pond (where the three parishes meet). Mum's the word! The Lacka Field, I think or the one west of it. "I don't know what happened Dinny".

I could go on. Cuimhní!

You are now ploughing the fields of heaven with Colm. As Trí said "The cows are in"!

Bill was such a big part of our childhood growing up in knocknagallagh. Bill Deasy was a kind, loyal gentlemen and the hardest worker you could meet. He was so happy with his adopted family the Dineen’s where he was treated as one of their own.
