We are devastated to have just heard of Billy's death. We had the pleasure of getting to know Billy through his visits to Ronnie and Kay Kavanagh in Sandycove for a warm up coffee after his swim. They would share all the old stories of Blackrock baths and the good old days. Along with all the other interesting stories that Billy had to share. The book Billy wrote of his life was fascinating, not to mention the extraordinary book that Bill Hern wrote about Mona.
What a gentleman and beautiful person that we will all miss xxx
My deepest sympathy to family and friends on the passing of Bill. Met him first many decades ago in Bord Failte. I have a memory of a genuine nice person and engaged and easy company. May he rest in peace.
Comhbhrón ó chroí le muintir agus chairde Liam. Braithfimid uainn i mbliana Liam ar chúrsa Lúnasa i mBaile an Fheirtéaraigh. Far lách, séimh, ciúin ach an rógaireacht go smior ann.
Suaimhneas síoraí dá anam uasal.
I first met Liam when I was researching the life of his beloved wife Mona. We quickly became friends and exchanged emails every few weeks. How I will miss Liam's wise and witty views on politics, rugby and the weather. I will always remember him for his kindness, generosity, good humour and love of the Irish language. He had a wonderful life. RIP Liam.
Sympathies to Pauline, extended family and friends on Bill's death. May he rest in peace.

Leaba i measc na naomh go raibh ag Liam. Fear uasal séimh ab ea é a raibh ana-mheas aige ar an nGaelainn agus ar chultúr a thíre dúchais. Bhí sé inár measc ar feadh blianta fada do Cheiliúradh Lúnasa na teanga ag Oidhreacht Chorca Dhuibhne i mBaile an Fheirtéaraigh. Sincere sympathy to his family, relatives and friends at this sad time.

He always had a kind word or sometimes just a wave from across the street. He was a warm man with a good sense of wit.

So sorry to learn of Bill’s passing. My sincere condolences to his sister Jane , cousin Joan and extended Walsh families. Bill was proud of his Limerick roots and a great supporter of the Limerick hurlers. I enjoyed his book, “The three Fridays”. He is now reunited with his dear wife Mona Baptiste. May he rest in peace
Bill was a lovely colleague in tourism. Many great times were spent in Blackrock baths, swimming galas organised by Sandcove swimming club and Bill featuring in the high diving. At a recent retired tourism event in Dun Laoghaire we had a discussion about the demise of the baths. One could discuss anything with Bill and always with a smile and relaxed demeaner which said it all about Bill. May he rest in peace and enjoy meeting with his beloved Mona once again. A truely wonderful person.
Suaimhneas síoraí d'anam uasal Liam.
Very sorry to hear of Bill’s passing. He was an esteemed colleague from Bord Fáilte and a most interesting man. Sincere condolences to his family and friends
To all of Bill's family, my sincere sympathy on your sad loss. I'm an old timer who used to live in Blackrock many years ago. There was then a group of fantastic divers, Bill, Val Demery, Eddie Heron and a few others, who could perform spectacular feats off the high platforms of Blackrock Baths - but who also mesmorised us with their diving skills at high tide into the open sea off the flat wall below the foot of the railway bridge. Such wonderful memories of Bill and the others, including my dear old pal, Val Demery RIP. Thank you Bill, Rest in Peace.

May he Rest in Peace.
I am shocked to learn that Bill has left us and Nancy and I send our deepest sympathy to his sister, the extended family and to all who knew and will mourn him, When I first met him in January 1965, Bill was one of a group recruited to bring modern professional marketing and sales experience to the promotion of Irish tourism – a novel concept at the time. In his long career in Bord Failte in Ireland and the United States, where we worked together, Bill, in his quiet way, made a lasting contribution to the evolution and expansion of Irish tourism promotion. Above all, Bill was a thorough gentleman, always a joy to meet. May he now enjoy the fruits of a life well lived, together again with his beloved wife Mona Baptiste. Rest in Peace.

My condolences to Bill's loved ones and many friends. I first met Bill in Bord Failte Baggot Street in 1978, where his file-filled office was a wonder and where he could ALWAYS find the right piece of paper. Over the years his memories of his working life in Ireland and overseas, and Blackrock life were great to hear about and latterly he was a great supporter of FTRA, indeed right up to our recent sun-filled jaunt to Co Carlow.
