I met General O'Callaghan frequently throughout his period as UNIFIL commander and was astonished at his composure and courtesy through those very difficult times. He was an absolute credit to our country.

We had great times while in UNTSO . May you rest in peace. Deepest sympathy to the family.
Sincere condolences to all the O'Callaghan family.
"Uncle Bill" was a wonderful, kind hearted, generous man who read me stories as a child while visiting our family in NYC during my late father's time with the UN.
May he find a high stool beside my dad, Rest in Peace ..

So sad to learn of the passing of Lt Gen Bill Callaghan. My first Commanding Officer in Cathal Brugha Barracks in early 70s - a great leader, mentor and role model. Also a superb ambassador for the Defence Forces and Ireland when heading UN Peace Operations in the Middle East in the 80s. Deepest sympathy and sincere condolences to his family. The late General was my first Commanding Officer in Cathal Brugha Barracks and all of those young officers at that time owe General Bill Callaghan a huge debt of gratitude for the example he set and the guidance he provided
One was never in doubt as to who the Commanding Officer was and it stood to us all in the years ahead
Rest in peace Sir
