To our dear family in Kilmanagh,
We are sorry to learn of the passing of Uncle Billy, a great man who has left a great legacy. I have always enjoyed our conversations during our Ireland visits over the years. He was always so warm and welcoming, even when we would show up to his house and surprise him after years of not visiting Ireland. Uncle Billy's big heart revealed itself in how he cared for his family, his community, his county, his country, and the world. I will never forget when, about 10 years ago, Uncle Billy shared his compassion for the Palestinians and the difficulties they face. When my wife, Mladenka, visited Uncle Billy with me in recent years, we enjoyed seeing photographs of, and learning more about, Jim Egan and the sacrifices he made for Ireland. Each time we visited, it seemed that Uncle Billy found another interesting item or learned something new about Jim, and we are so blessed to have that knowledge and pass it down to our family. During our last visit in 2014, Uncle Billy showed us Uncle Paddy's hurlings, I believe from 1948 and 1958, respectively. It was an amazing feeling to hold those hurleys and imagine the matches that Uncle Paddy played with them. We also loved hearing about the many outstanding accomplishments of Uncle Billy's daughters on and off the pitch. We send our love to all of you, and wish you all the best during this difficult time. Rest in Peace, Uncle Billy.
