William “Billy” Noel Lawless

Billy was a great friend of our deceased brother Dr Michael Kyne. Deepest sympathies to the Lawless family from the Kyne and Whiriskey families. Rest in peace.

A lovely tribute to a great Galway man.
The crowds from all walks of life who paid their respects to the family and attended the Mass.
The sight of the oars carried high over his ashes as it was brought to the alter was beautiful.
The ceremony, homily, tributes and music especially
"Old Galway Bay"
Was so poignant as it filled the Cathedral.

Fond memories of when the Irish Oak opened on Clarke Street many years ago. Billy was some man for attention to detail and the ultimate perfectionist.

Condolences to the Lawless family. Billy was a true inspiration to us all and a legend in the sport of rowing. He'll be sadly missed. Rest in peace Billy. Never forgotten.

Sincere condolences to Anne and family, Gerald Helen Mary and extended families on the sad passing of Billy. A giant of a man in many ways. His contribution to rowing especially in Galway over many years has been immense. A top class oarsmen and competitor in his day, his involvement and positive impact with the various clubs he represented both on and off the water will stand the test of time. Back in the 70s Billy was the main instigator in reviving a Corrib Rowing & Yachting Club senior 8 crew which as a young lad i had the honour to cox with the big man himself sitting in the stroke seat. A sporting year I'll never forget. Hanging on to the door handles in the car while Billy drove us to and back from the many regattas. Great times and great memories. His love of rugby was well known and played for Corinthians RFC back in the day, and always remained a loyal supporter. His pub The Tribemen was a favourite location for many Corinthian gatherings and celebrations over the years. Billy's love for his city and country was evident anytime you chatted with him and his service to both has been exemplary. He'll be missed by many. May his gentle soul rest in peace.

Especially to Anne and all the Lawless family , we are so sorry to hear about your enormous loss. Anne and Billy were both very kind and welcoming to us when we visited Chicago. We have great memories of our visit with you. Chicago was a home from home for so many young people on their journey, who were lucky enough to have known you both . Had a wonderful day in Billy's company in 2007. He drove us all around Chicago on a Sunday.
Met Billy a few years later with his friends from Chicago, and brought a couple, members his group on a trip to Kinvara.
