I extend my sympathy to Siobhán, Philip and all family and friends on William's death. He was brilliant company to meet for a chat in the local coffee emporiums over breakfast especially and indeed for some years it was a privilege to handle some tax matters for him. Technically there was a point presumable when he officially retired but I gather he still continued to give and give to education long afterwards such was his love for what he did.

I remember Mr. O’Byrne as such a lively, empathetic, and gentle soul. I can still picture his warm, cheerful greetings in the corridors of St. Mary’s NS as if it were yesterday. He had a special way of seeing every student and making each of us smile.
I was very shy as a child, but he always knew how to bring me out of myself. He was a big inspiration in my becoming a teacher, and he showed me how important playfulness and curiosity are in learning and connection.
I still treasure the book he gave me during my teaching practice in St. Mary’s, The Reflective Teacher. Inside, he included a quote from T.S. Eliot about letting go in order to truly learn, something that has stayed with me and feels like such a reflection of his wisdom and dynamic way of teaching.
Rest in peace, Mr. O’Byrne. You were truly one of a kind. Thinking of his family, and all who loved him at this very sad time

I am deeply saddened to hear of Mr.O’Byrne’s passing my sincere sympathies to Siobhán, Philip and the extended O’Byrne Family.
Mr O’Byrne was one of a kind a true gentleman in every sense of the word he always had a kind word for everyone. I have fond memories of being one of his first pupils in the 1970’s when he came to Blessington. Mr O’Byrne had a wonderful way about him when it came to teaching, he was so passionate in helping his pupils reach their own individual potential. His pupils loved him , he was special and left quite the impression he always went way and above the call of duty. I sometimes used to babysit for himself and Anne but was terrified of their small dog , they were a lovely family. Billy and Anne made such a valuable contribution to the community of Blessington through Billy’s work in the primary school, Anne’s voluntary work in the Credit Union and both were very involved in the church. Now reunited with his beloved Anne in their eternal home in heaven may they watch over Siobhán, Philip and all the family helping them through the difficult days ahead. May Billy’s gentle soul rest in peace.
