To Pat and Billy’s wonderful family, a heartfelt and sincere sentiment of condolences. I am so sorry to learn the news of your Dads passing. I have great memories of meeting them both in Askea church, when I was home from the States and trying to give my two young America lads a sense of an Irish and somewhat religious upbringing.
Let’s just say they took to the Cul Camps with less defiance!
Your Mom was truly wonderful and to this day I remember her every time I’m in Askea. Your Dad, was a gentle giant…one time he gave a bunch of us a lift to Dublin, dropped off at the Mater….kindest, gentle, easy Dad ever! ….and me with loads of teenage attitude!
They are together again, may they be forever at peace and with love. Xxx
P.S. Alan you did a great eulogy, kudos.
Love & best to all. Xxx

An early influence in my life, Billy had a hugely positive impact on youngsters with his gentle, yet authoritative style. His yarns invariably imparted little nuggets of wisdom. One I recall as clear as yesterday. When driving through Moyne on the way to a hurling clash in Thurles, Billy told us about a young lad negotiating that same stretch-of-road in an old banger trying to impress his beau who was a more than a little 'above his station'. At once, he pointed as far as the eye could see. "All that is Mine", he expounded which was the God's honest truth if his 'uncultured' twang was any guide. I still wonder if his beau was won over by his sense-of-humour. As for Billy, he never lost the common touch in spite of the exigencies of serving in the Law Courts. He never felt that anyone was 'below his station' and was in his element on sporting occasions big and small or when out and about in the community. He generally left a warm afterglow in his wake, not least amongst those who were going through hard times to which he was no stranger himself. Just like his wife Pat who took an earlier train, Billy held true to the essence of his faith when it was all too easy to get led astray. To his beloved family, I hope that, in time, your grief will subside with the sure knowledge that your Mam and Dad gave a good account of themselves in this realm and are now reunited up Yonder watching over them like never before.
