My condolences to the Cooper family,
I worked for Willie in the Brindley Dollard printing company in the 1980's. I was an apprentice compositor in the company, he took me under him wing and I eventually became his right hand man.
He was a great boss, always full of enthusiasm, encouragement and humour.
We had some great belly laughs and those years in Brindley Dollard are remembered with fondness.
I haven't seen him in over 30 years but think of him from time to time.
He was a remarkable man and he made an indelible mark on me and I will never forget him.
I can still picture him holding court in his office smoking his pipe and telling jokes to howls of laughter by myself and others.
Here's to you Willie and I'm honoured that our lives crossed paths for those 5 or 6 years in Brindley Dollard.

You inspired me to make something better of myself, no matter the situation.

Your love of the railway was an inspiration – Sadly I missed the age of steam, but hopefully I made you proud. My children enjoyed making a model of my train to send you.

I get my love of classical music from sitting at your feet while you played old records… and later, a very odd love of Jameson… But has to be the right bottle… on your optic… each one for the nobility of Dublin who might pop in for a chat or debate.

Just glad that Dad and Adele were there at the end.

I am so saddened to hear of William's death. We became great friends during his time in the Royal. We read together and shared many, many stories. His formidable brain and enthusiasm for life led one to believe he would be with us for many more years to come. For his grieving family and friends I want to extend my profoundest sympathies.

To Ed & family.

Having met your dad on a number of ocassions, I was always impressed with his Anglo-Irish gentleman mannerisms and his in-depth knowledge and love for all things classical, military and of course trains.

Your dad was the quintessential Englishman in an Irishman's body and it made him truly unique. His passing has left the world devoid of another great classical mind.

Although I only met him in RH Donnybrook and later in TLC Carton, I will miss reading to and chatting with William about music, literature or history was always a pleasure. Roger who got to know Willie in Brabazon. We had many journeys around the city
and despite failing sight Willie always advised in great detail what shortcuts should be taken to avoid the traffic. My sympathy to you all especially Edmund whom I met regularly. Your father showed incredible spirit,good humour and optimism and such knowledge of classical music
