Deepest sympathy to the Harrington family and friends on the sad passing of Willie. We were in school together and he drew the must amazing figures on the edge of his copybook. We met up again as adults in Kealys bar where we had many a friendly chat. He was indeed a gentleman and a natural genius. Rest in peace Willie.

On behalf of the O'Leary family in Sligo I'd like to extend condolences to all in Cork over Williams Loss. He was a dear family friend. My Father the late John O'Leary had helped get William, a gifted teenage artist, into the college of art in Cork, and they remained good friends over the years. William's art was full of humour, empathy and charm, like the man himself. He was part of the cultural fabric of the city. Ar dheis De go raibh a anam.

I was sad to hear Willie had passed away. May the light shine upon him and may he continue to paint in heaven. 🎨 My condolences to Toni and his relatives and close friends 🧡

I shared a desk with William in St Joseph’s school Mardyke, in 1953/54. I remember him as a gentle, kind and humorous person whose artistic and English writing talents were very obvious.
I was delighted and proud to see his drawings hanging in The Lord Mayors Chambers in our City Hall.

so sorry on willies' temp departure from us, great memories of musical sessions at shandon street and kealy's pub at faulkners lane, now called opera lane. staff at kealy's were the very best. memories of mick o ' mahony, timmy franklin, and miss. frost, teachers at the school of art nearby. be seeing you, rest in peace.-----

Willie was Cork, and my mind's eye memories of the streets of Cork and its characters are as Willie drew them. For a while, decades ago, we shared our dog, a lemon long-haired Labrador called Slipper. Oftimes Slipper would disappear from the Mardyke and we'd get a funny, affectionate note in pencil on the back of a betting slip from Willie and Toni to say he was with them. A kind man and a great artist whom I greatly liked and admired. Cork should never forget him. He was lucky to have benefitted from a time when Cork City Council respected and nurtured art and artists.
