Our sincere sympathies to the Bateman family and extended family on the sad passing of Bill, it is years since I,Michael, had the pleasure of getting to know him, he was one of life's true gentleman, as indeed was his Father before him, my Father and Bill's Father knew each other a very long time ago, and we always held them in high regard.
May they both rest in heavenly peace, in our thoughts and prayers.

My deepest condolences to the Bateman family on the passing of Billy. We were together in the Gideons for many years and I have the fondest memories of Billy's kind and happy disposition. He was a great example and encouragement to me.

Barbara, Rob, Ivor, Mark and all the Bateman family, we are thinking of you all at this very sad and difficult time. You all meant so much to Billy and Billy meant so much to all of you. The loss is great. Billy was one of a kind. Whenever we were with him, he always had a word of wisdom, a witty comment or a story told with a twinkle in his eye. We will always remember Billy at the BBQs at MCC. He loved coming down to the barn or out to the bonfire for a burger and was always so thrilled with all that was happening at camp. For all the things he loved in life, he loved the Lord and you, his family, most and was so proud of his grandchildren.

Although I didn't know Billy personally, I have many happy memories of summer camps hosted at The Desmense because of his generosity and hospitality. They were formative in my spiritual journey, and because of that I am very grateful for Billy's life and faith.

Billy kindly welded my broken bike frame for me. I was so delighted with his help. I think I was 7!! In Eastferry on weekends I remember waving to him, Barbara and the boys as they sailed out of the ferry on Baltimore Beacon, rubber dingy in tow! He was a gentleman. Rest in Peace Billy.
