William (Liam) Daly

Knowing Liam since the early 80s living nearby, his was a quiet, shy reassuring presence to fellow walkers and cyclists in the area.

Sad to have just heard of Liam's sudden passing. We used to chat when he was out walking his dog. We met the week he died, and he remarked how mild the weather was. He was a gentle man, and had time for everyone.

Sincere sympathy Alice, Clare, Conor, Jodie et al. Everyone in Mount Merrion, Kilmacud and Goatstown knew Liam cycling on his bike, walking Penny or one of his other dogs, from his earlier career in Dun Laoghaire Rathdown Council as the man who could get a streetlight working again or as a volunteer sacristan in Mount Merrion Church for 40+ years. The embodiment of what a volunteer on our best days can be, he began his formal ministry as a young fella serving the early morning Mass for the nuns in Mount Anville Convent. A friend to all - calm, reliable, encouraging, committed and dedicated to the task in hand - he lived his life in the present tense, so everyone he met on any day left his presence enriched, encouraged and the better of their encounter with him. Liam, we will all miss you, but you will be in our hearts forever. May you rest in the peace of the God you served with such love and dedication for all your 84 years.

I am very sad to hear that my cousin Liam has passed away. My deepest condolences to Clare, Alice, Michael, Tony and Edward and extended family. I have fond memories of meeting Liam at family gatherings in days gone by. He was always very amiable and a pleasure to know. I know my mother, his Auntie Margaret, was very fond of him. The Funeral Ministry Team extends deep sympathy to Liam’s sisters, brothers and extended family on the sad occasion of Liam’s unexpected death. On Sunday 3 November he was volunteer Sacristan at the Mass for the Deceased. Never a truer description for Liam than gentleman.
We became friends when we moved to Mount Merrion in 1995 and struck a chord through our mutual love of Shamrock Rovers. When times were good and more importanty, when they were bad, Liam was a strong and positive support for the Hoops and always gave us hope. He will be hugely missed and will always be in our thoughts and prayers.

Those of us involved with Mount Merrion Parish cannot describe in words the contribution that Liam made to the church over the last 40 years, especially to those who worshipped in Mount Merrion on Sunday evenings at 7:30pm over that time.

Aside from that, Liam was a truly wonderful man, and a great friend to so many of us. We will be greatly missed.
