William (Liam) Dunbar

How fortunate I am to have known Liam in the winter of his life. He was such a witty, gracious gentleman. My thoughts are with you, Roisin, Liz, James, John, Zoe, Rachel, Daniel, Mark and the extended Dunbar family, as you navigate the months ahead.

Our family condolences to Liam’s family RIP. We knew Liam and Barbara RIP since they came to Dublin in the early 1980s. I worked with Liam in the Federated Dublin Voluntary Hospitals when he was a member of the group senior management team. He went on to become CEO of St. James’s Hospital and many have commended him as the best CEO which I concur. Liam RIP was a colleague, friend and golf partner and is sorely missed. Our trips with him and Barbara will live in our memories.

Our sincere sympathy to all the Dunbar family on the passing of liam. My mother passed away in june in Parkhouse nursing home in rye suite (Johanna Barry) and liam was also in rye as a resident. My mam worked in St James hospital and i still work there and we would have been there when liam was ceo remember him well. I remember him fondly from the nursing home too. May he rest in peace 🙏

So sad to hear of Liam's death. Sincere sympathies to his family. I worked with him during his time as CEO of St James's Hospital and, later on, as Chairperson of the National Council for the Professional Development of Nursing and Midwifery during my time as CEO. As a nurse himself, he had a very deep understanding of and commitment to the central role of nursing and midwifery in the health services. He was deeply caring person. He carried that into his career in senior management where he earned the respect and warm affection of all those who had the privilege of working with him. I owe him a great personal debt of gratitude for the impact he had on my life and career and on those I have worked with over the years. I will never forget his kindness, wisdom and generosity. I will never forget him. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.

He was an absolutely brilliant CEO of St James’s Hospital with huge interpersonal and communication skills.

Always put the patient first and put huge emphasis on staff support and team work.

He was at the centre of the development of the new St James’s Hospital agus chuir sé “Fáilte Mór” roimh all the new staff coming from other hospitals in the 1980’s when they transferred to the St James’s campus.
