Our sincere sympathies. We were very sorry to hear of the passing of Wilie, RIP. Willie was a huge part of life in Clyduff, in the 70s especially. Whether it was unloading bags of fertilizer, feeding children, or travelling the length and breath of Ireland in a lorry with my Dad, there was Willie, having the craic, in the middle of it all. Back then, the men always had their dinner in the house, and for the most part, nobody paid much heed to us children. But not so with Willie. He peeled our potatoes, fed us, played with us and, most importantly, always had a bar of chocolate in his pocket for us. He often had the job of babysitting us, (passed on from John Joe) and nothing brought us more joy than the evenings when Willie was minding the fort. In fact, for years we loved telling people that Willie Keeshan was our babysitter.
Unfortunately, my Mam and Dad were unable to attend the funeral, but since hearing of Willie’s passing, Dad has been regaling us with stories of all the fun he had with Willie. What shines through every single story and yarn is Willie’s kindness. Nothing new there. We always knew what a gentle, kind hearted soul Willie Keeshan was. May you rest eternally Willie, in the peace which you so richly deserve.
