Heartfelt sympathies to Helen Francis and Nora on the death of our dear friend Willie. He will be sadly missed by Helen and Francis who were such a fantastic support to him while he was in Oakdale. Francis never missed a weekend visit where Willie would have the farming supplement of the Cork Examiner kept safely for him. You would need a vice grip to extract it from Willie's grip in case it was not returned for Francis

Willie was at the centre of everything that happened in Oakdale, he had a hunger for news and had a mighty pair of ears for picking every bit he could glean. When staff rosters were put out for the week ahead he was able to tell the girls coming through the door what shifts they were working.

He was besotted by news of deaths and listened to Radio Kerry every morning to see who had died in his beloved Kingdom. If you rang him for a chat and gave him any news he would hang up and head off in his wheel chair to tell everyone he truly was the chief news correspondent in Oakdale. He constantly phoned visitors of residents keeping in touch with the outside world.

He loved the GAA and proudly wore the green & gold for every Kerry game.

He was popular with fellow residents, visitors and was well loved and well cared for by the wonderful staff in Oakdale during his many years residing there.

Willie you were so popular and will be sadly missed by so so many. Heaven now has their own Mr. Sky News.
