My deepest condolences to you Margaret and family. I was away and only heard the sad news on my return. Willie was a colleague and friend and a source of great wit. We had great fun while being members of the Pettit’s Table Quiz team, 1979 - 1983. If we did not know the answer Willie could always be relied upon to come up with a brilliant guess at least! And his expertise at cryptic crosswords was very entertaining. A brilliant mind and a very generous heart, he was a true gent with a brilliant sense of humour. I offer my condolences to Margaret and family on Willie's passing. We were colleagues for many years in E.G. Pettit & Co. and particularly on the Cork main drainage scheme.

On behalf of Margaret (née O’Hanlon) and myself who knew both Willie and you very well, in our single days, many years ago; we wish you Margaret as well as Brian, Dervilla and Orla and their extended families our deepest condolences.

Willie will be truly missed but his imprint on those who were lucky enough to know him will live on in happy memories.

We are saddened at Willie’s death but happy to accept God’s will and to know that he is free of suffering and safe at shore in His loving arms.

My deepest sympathies to Willie's family, relatives and friends. I will always remember Willie fondly due to my time working with him in Pettit's. He was very much a figure of wisdom sitting amongst an office of "young ones" (including myself) many at the start of our careers. We fondly referred to him as The Oracle as he could always be relied upon to know the answer to our (probably many!) questions. But what will stick with me most is that he was a gentleman through and through, simply a lovely man who I was lucky to share an office with.... always calm, wise, kind and warm hearted. He will be missed. RIP xxx
