Very sad good friend of my dad for many years 😢 rest In peace
Deepest sympathy to Marie and the Tobin family on the passing of Willie a true gentleman may he rest in peace.
Willie was the 2nd youngest of 6 children and was born in Larkfield Grove, Kimmage where he lived all of his life.
He sadly lost his mother at a young age and he and his sister Marie rared each other resulting in them having a closeness and affinity that lasted their lifetime. He was a talented tradesman who worked on the oil rigs in his early 20s and ultimately built a career for himself as a plumber or as Willie liked to call it a ‘electrical heat engineer’! Willie was an avid sportsfan and loved nothing more than watching the horse racing of the day or indeed a big Champions League match. The Cheltenham Festival for Willie was the peak of the sporting year and his knowledge of horses and horse racing was unrivaled. This love of sport was only matched by his love of people and of socialising and he liked nothing more than to spend the evening in his local pub The Stone Boat with his friends or his partner Maria Hickey whom he shared the last 20 years of his life with.
He had a great way with children and while having none of his own was like a second father to his sister Marie’s kids and in latter years when he retired got great enjoyment out of helping Maria look after her cousin’s children. Most of all Willie was a great person with a huge heart and was the life and soul of every party or social engagement he attended. His quick wit; charm & interest in people meant he occupied a special place in the heart of everyone who was lucky enough to get to know him.
To Maria and all the Tobin family, we were saddened to hear of the passing of Willie.
A true Gentleman if ever there was one. Many a laugh we shared while Willie was getting his haircut.
One thing he spoke of was the love and pride he had for Maria and all the family.
