Willie (Bill) REILLY

Met Willie at a rare Co Louth Association event in London in the mid 90’s, he was friendly & sociable. I have photos of him from that evening including a photo with a Louth Flag in the background, which was probably one of his Football flags. I also now realize he probably organized the event. (It was also covered in the local Argus paper).

Amazing to read his achievements, though equally sad to read about his heartaches. 💔

He was so young when he came to England, it can't have been easy back then.

From the many tributes online he was obviously loved & revered by many. A Philanthropist, a giver. A rare breed.

My sincerest sympathies to the family and GAA friends of Willie Reilly. If you supported the GAA from any county , you were a lifetime friend of the late Willie, I met Willie in the 80s in The Junction pub in Harlesden, N10 and the craic was 90, we chatted about Galway winning the 3 in a row, he knew all about Sean Purcell and Frank Stockwell and their association with Louth football, he really was so good to so many. They'll mighty craic up in heaven now. RIP Willie.

I fondly remember him helping our club through many difficult years with nothing asked for in return. He helped many a Pearse's man, including myself, find work through the years and would always be the first port of call for new lads arriving.

Through his generous sponsorship of the club, and the camogie club he guided us to many memorable days (and nights!). His sponsorship and involvement in the GAA in London and at home was phenomenal and instrumental in keeping the games alive.

A true Gael and proud Irish man through and through.

It was a pleasure to call Bill my friend since he arrived in Richmond, we had many a good day and night together, at the races, in Las Vegas, and at various weddings. At a time when ladies football was in its infancy in Louth Willie stepped forward albeit after a good night on the town with our founding member Ann woods and provided invaluable sponsorship in the shape of a wonderful set of jerseys with his name emblazoned across their front..he gave an inspirational speech to the girls before our first ever championship final and celebrated heartily afterwards proud as punch..this was the nature of the man and he never forgot his roots despite his many years abroad..a wonderful dry wit and a gent of a man..sincerest condolences to all of Willie,s family

so willie has finally left us.many a good night we had in the cricklewood tavern back in the sixties when we were all young and innocent.his favourite song was the hanging tree by marty robbins,and he could play the harmonica very well himself.he was very good to any young lad from county louth in those days.he gave jobs to lots of them down the years.he was also great fun and a pleasure to know.may his memory live long,for he wont be forgotten by his contemporaries.sympathy to his family from myself and my wife who knew willie well before i ever met her or him. ar dheis de goraibh a anam rabach.
