Sorry to hear of Willie's passing. I remember him from my time with Donoroe Harriers. I used to see him cycling around Parkgate Street. RIP Willie.
We offer our sincere condolences to the Dunne family and to Donore Harriers A C on the recent passing of Willie, Rome Olympian in 1960 and a legend in Irish Athletics down the years. May his gentle soul rest in peace!
Mr Donore harriers .Willie kept an all seeing eye on everything that happened at the club forever—it was in his veins . like the TV uncle Albert with”during the war” Willie always had a good story and knew how to spin a yarn or two if he thought you might bight it . But nobody was more astute when it came to Athletics knowledge and what a memory ?It was an absolute pleasure to have been in his company on trips abroad where he was so experienced yet considerate . A humble man with time for everyone despite all his achievements. Rest in peace friend, well earned . Terry

Condolences to all of the Dunne family RIP Willie, end of an era.
Sincere Sympathy to all The Dunne family on the passing of Willie. He was indeed a legend and much loved in Donore Harriers. The last few years there always seemed to be something missing when you went down to the club. Of course that was Willie (usually going backwards around the track in his later years).I remember him arriving not just in the club but at races all over the country on his Honda 50 until it was stolen from him. He then took to the push bike and hardly missed a day down at Donore.I remember him telling me when his eyesight was starting to fail how he was safer coming up and down to the club on his bike than walking as people on their mobile phones kept walking into him on the footpaths. Rest in peace my friend.
