WILLIE LEAHY

Just read of the passsing away of the great horseman and country man Willy Leahy. We send our deepest sympathy to the family members. An enormous loss for all, the family members, for the country of Ireland and all horse friends. We have had the great chance to take part of the first trails on horseback and first trip to the beautiful country started 1982. Fascinated by the trails impressions I never stopped to visit Ireland and breed horses in Ireland, imported an irish hunter who is now 26 love of my life and had a successful show career also. Willy, horsewhisperer and horselover, inspired me and we shall never forget him and what he has done for the country and the horseworld.May he rest in peace and hopefully the spirit goes on. I have just been told about Willie's death and I want to say to Moira and the family my hearfelt sympathy. Wonderful memories of a unique man, full of character and fun and who did so much for the West of Ireland. They don't make them like Willie anymore, unfortunately!

I was so sorry to hear of the passing of your father, Willie. I have the fondest memories of visiting your home in Aille Cross from boarding school and the much-needed freedom on the farm. I remember enjoying cups of very strong tea and buttery toast around the kitchen counter with your mum and enjoying the quick-paced sibling banter just as much! And at the end of our weekend, your dad giving us money for the tuck shop ... we could have bought shares in the tuck shop with his generous offering!! I remember Dorothy's wedding and your dad so proud of all of you. A man leaving such a great legacy. I know you'll feel his loss immensely.

We are very sorry to learn of Willie's very sad passing and extend our deepest sympathy to his wife, Moira, and all the family at this very difficult time.

We always had so much fun with Willie when he, his team, their guests and all the beautiful horses on the Connemara trail visited our Aunt and Uncle, Mary and Martin O'Malley, at their home in Recess to enjoy a well deserved break, a cup of tea, biscuits and a chat over many years before they embarked on the mountain trail en route to Clifden after the horses had been rested.

It was all hands on deck to prepare for their visits and it made our holidays in Recess all the more special to meet and have a nice chat with Willie and all those with him at those times.

Willie's approach was seamless and he was a true gentleman who we will remember with much fondness. May he rest in peace.

Willies legend, the reason for my first foray to Ireland to ride. It will never be the same there without him. My deepest sympathy to his family whom I adore, much love to Moira. Willie showed me the most kindness when I lost my son, and I will be forever grateful for him for showing me the Ireland I have grown to love. RIP Willie, ride free...
