Willie McDonnell

Sincere Condolences to the Mc Donnell family on the passing of Willie. I did not hear of his passing until St Stephen’s Day. I regret that I missed the funeral. I knew Willie and his late brother Eaneas since I first came from Oughterard by Erriff to Westport in 1972. I remember in early days playing cards in the Halfway now Darby’s and returning to the house by the river to continue the into the small hours. I have travelled that road to Oughterard many times in the last 53 years and have many happy memories of Willie. A great early riser in the morning. Meet him many times at 7 in the morning at the old school looking after the sheep.
I have to remember his great friend Peter Chambers who never went to Connemara without visiting Willie.
Willie was true old fashion country Gentleman whom I will miss from the house on the banks of the Erriff River.
May his Gentle soul rest in Peace.
