DAVID W. LEWIS (Dalkey, Co Dublin) August 20, 2021 peacefully and surrounded by family in the wonderful care of Altadore Nursing Home, Glenageary.
David, beloved husband of the late Anne Lewis (née McCambridge) and father to the late Joanne will be sadly missed by his sons Alan, Stephen and Gareth, his daughters-in-law, Kelly, Susan and Allison, and grandchildren Conor, Ben, Robyn, Jamie, Lucy, Aidan, Ryan and Liam, his extended family, friends and colleagues.
David was born in Douglas, Isle of Man in 1944. Both his parents were schoolteachers and he had one brother, Richard. He developed a love of science in his youth and attended university in Liverpool, reading Mathematics. He moved to Dublin in 1969 to take a position in the Mathematics Department at U.C.D. where he worked for 40 years. David loved his work, and the community of colleagues and friends it introduced around the world. He was a devoted family man whose humour, kindness, patience, and counsel will be sorely missed.
In accordance with current Government guidelines and in the hope of keeping our friends and family safe, a small ceremony will take place on Thursday, August 26 at Mount Jerome Crematorium in Harold’s Cross at 2.30pm and can viewed on https://vimeo.com/event/153499. David's Funeral cortege will leave Quinn's of Glasthule at 1.40pm approx. No flowers, please. Donations, if desired, to Temple Street Children’s Hospital.
