The death has occurred of Dr Sean Murphy, Portumna, who passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, in the loving care of the Staff of Portumna Retirement Village on Thursday 4th November 2021.
Predeceased by his brother Dr Gabriel Murphy, Sean will be deeply missed by his devoted and loving wife Noreen, sons Declan, Brian & Shane, daughter Sinéad, sister Ann, daughters-in-law Lisa, Lyndsay and Edel, son-in-law Andy, grandsons Ben, Sam, Luke, Cian, Finn, Peter, Alex, Oscar and granddaughter Holly.
Sean will also be sadly missed by all he was involved with over the years; the community in the Portumna area who he was so proud to serve as their GP, Cistercian College Roscrea and its Past Pupils Union which he remained deeply involved with for decades, his friends from his horse-racing and salmon-fishing days and a wide circle of friends through his children and grandchildren's activities.

Reposing at his home, St Brendan's Road, on Sunday 7th November from 1pm to 5pm. (Car parking is available in Portumna Retirement Village). Those wishing to pay their respects to the family are advised this is a "WALK THROUGH" repose and are asked to please refrain from hand shaking or hugging in keeping with NPHET guidelines ensuring face masks are worn in the current Covid pandemic. Sean's repose has been facilitated over an extended period by his family to provide for social distancing and avoidance of crowds or gatherings. Funeral Mass will be celebrated for Seán on Monday November 8th, at 11am in St. Brigid’s Church, Portumna. Attendance at Mass remains restricted to allow for social distancing within the church capacity. Sean's Mass will be streamed on the following link SEÁN'S FUNERAL. Burial afterwards in St. Michael’s Cemetery.

Sean’s family would like to express their most sincere gratitude to the Staff and Management of Portumna Retirement Village for their exceptional care and friendship to Sean over the past 2 years and especially during his final illness. Thanks also to Dr Raymond Brogan and all other Medical and Nursing Teams who tended to Sean throughout his illnesses.
