Fr. Joseph O'Brien

On December 27th, Very Rev. Fr Joseph O'Brien passed away peacefully in the wonderful care of the staff at Corpus Christi Nursing Home in Mitchelstown.

 

Fr.Joe studied for the priesthood in St.Johns college in Waterford where he was ordained for the priesthood on June 12th 1965. He had 6 different appointments throughout the diocese of Clifton- The Immaculate Conception in Stroud 1965-1968, The Holy Family in Swindon 1968-1976, St. John the Baptist in Trowbridge 1976-1980, Parish Priest of Our Lady and St.Kenelm, Stow-on-the-wold 1980-1985, Parish Priest of Martyrs in Truffley 1985 -1997 and Fr.Joes final parish appointment was at St. Catherines in Frome, Somerset where he remained a parish priest until he retired in 2016.

 

Beloved son of the late James and Hannah, dear brother of John and the late Jimmy.

 

Sadly missed by his nephew Paul and his wife Alfie, niece Judith and her husband Matty, niece Ellen and her children Torin, Paddy, Maria and Jimmy, his fellow clergy, relatives, neighbours and friends.

Rosary at the Chapel of Rest. Baldwin Street, Mitchelstown (P67 DX81) on Thursday 28th December at 7pm.

 

Reposing at the Chapel of Rest on Friday 29th December from 5-7pm.

 

Requiem Mass at The Holy Family Church, Ballygiblin on Saturday 30th December 12pm followed by burial in Brigown New Cemetery. Mitchelstown.
