Freda Egan
(née Shanahan)

Peacefully at Ballina District Hospital on the 27th of February 2025, surrounded by her heartbroken family. She is predeceased by her parents, Timothy and Winifred, her sister Mae, brother Donald, his wife Sheila and her cousin Molly (McDermott).

Freda was the much-loved wife of the late Jimmy Egan, beloved mother of Marie Clarke (Ballina), Donald (Knock), Denis (Spiddal) and June Duffy (Castlerea), adored grandmother of Ruth, Rory, Rachel, Ian, Sarah, Alison, Grace, Hannah, Luke, Andrew and Isabelle and proud great-grandmother of her fourteen great-grandchildren.

She is deeply regretted by her family, son-in-laws Felim and Chris, daughters-in-law Teresa and Colette, her nieces Grace and Susan, nephew Paul and extended family. Freda will be forever missed by her loyal neighbours, wonderful friends and especially her life-long friend and neighbour, Angela.

Freda will be reposing at Gaynor’s Funeral Home, Castlerea (F45 HH24) from 6pm - 8pm on Friday evening (28th February). The funeral will be arriving at St. Patrick’s Church, Castlerea for Mass of the Resurrection at 11am on Saturday (1st March). Burial afterwards in ST. Joseph’s Cemetery.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and staff at Sligo University Hospital and Ballina District Hospital for the exceptional care, kindness, and compassion shown to Freda and her family.
