Gerard passed peacefully from this life, after an illness bravely borne, surrounded by his loving and devoted family, and the wonderful staff at Hospital Ground, Merlin Park Hospital, Galway.
Gerard will be forever loved and missed by his heartbroken wife and best friend, Teresa and their children Colm, Nuala, Brian and Paul, his loving sisters Mary and Hilda, brothers in law Michael and Seamus, son in law Frank, daughters in law Áine and Glenda.
He will be fondly remembered by his grandchildren Darragh, Dylan, Sean, Jack, Roisín, Faye, Alex, Dawn, Harry and Evan, the extended Dowler family, his nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours and friends.
A Requiem Mass will be held for the repose of Gerard's soul on Monday, 6th September, in St Brendan's Cathedral, Loughrea at 12.30pm, with burial afterwards in the Carmelite Abbey Cemetery.
With the easing of NPHET funeral service restrictions on 6th September, the requiem mass is now permitted with an attendance of 50% capacity of the Cathedral. However, in keeping with HSE, NPHET and public health guidelines, please respect the safety of the family at this most vulnerable time. Gerard's funeral cortege will depart from the McLoughlin residence in Earlspark on Monday at 11.50am.
