Gladys Anne McGloughlin was born to Dudley & Annie O’Carroll in Dublin, on 7th. April 1938. and died peacefully in Sacramento, California, on Thursday, 8th. August 2024, after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease. She was 86 years of age. She was preceded in death by her sister Toni (Frank), her brothers Richard (Ann), Tom (Agnes) Dudley (Rita), and her son Eoin. Gladys leaves behind her beloved husband Charles of 63 years, sons Stephen (Bre), John (Jackie) and Kevin (Pamela). She leaves ten grandchildren, Brendan, Matthew, Abby & Emma, Anne & Brian, Ciaran, Seamus & Gaetes and Ruby, and many cherished cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Gladys went to Presentation Convent School, George’s Hill and to the National College of Art, then in Kildare Street. and had an outstanding career as a commercial artist, serving many of the boutique fashion shops in Dublin. She was also an accomplished portrait and landscape artist. She loved to paint in oils and her landscapes and portraits adorn the walls of many family and friends homes in the Dublin area! Gladys was a wonderful mother to her four children and a devoted home maker. Her home was always busy with family get-to-gathers, birthdays, anniversaries and many “late nights”! She was very active in her local Parish of Our Lady of Refuge, Rathmines, supported the Servite Order and started and ran two charity thrift stores for them on Camden Street. She was also very active in the non-denominational War on Want organisation and helped distribute their funds to many needy causes all over the world. Gladys loved to travel, and traveled widely in Europe and the US, and made epic global trips with Charles, to family
in Thailand, China and New Zealand. When Gladys and her family emigrated to Fort Wayne, Indiana in 1987, and on to Sacramento, California in 1993, following the business interests of her husband Charles, she continued her love of community, art and her charitable interests. Sadly, this all ended in 2015 when Alzheimer’s Disease first started to take significant hold. She became more and more disabled and was admitted to care in 2019. Gladys was finally released from the debilitating effects of this disease when she returned to her Maker on August 8th.
May our Dear wife & mother Rest in the Peace.of Christ.
