The death has occurred of Ian Roome, Raemore, Tralee, Co Kerry and formerly of Derby and Norfolk, England. Ian passed away unexpectedly but peacefully in the exceptional care of Tralee University Hospital on Wednesday 25 February 2026. Ian is fondly remembered by his wide circle of friends, too many to name individually, in the Irish traditional music community, his friends with whom he ‘had the tune’, chatting about the music and musicians (especially his great friend fiddler Bobby Casey), in sessions all over including: at Peter Browne’s Castleisland (where this photograph of Ian was taken last Sunday, 22 February); The Willie Clancy Summer School Miltown Malbay which he attended consistently for 50 years; The Grand Hotel, Tralee; with The London Irish Community in the 60s -70s; Comhaltas Cois na hAbhna Ennis and the Comhaltas family.
Also his special lifelong friends, through music: Siobhán Ní Chonaráin, John Kelly and family, Eamonn McGiveney, Nickie and Anne McAuliffe Tom and Mary O’ Sullivan, Andy Irvine, Colin and Rosalie and John Dipper from Heytesbury.
Ian was further supported in his life by Castleisland Medical Practice; Mr. Makki, Karen and Team Bons Secours Tralee; Mr Wallace and Team, Bons Secours Tralee; Michael Keneally Pharmacist, Castleisland; Lynch Motors Farranfore; Andrée Haige, Caroline and Team at ‘The Five Lamps Practice’, Derby England, and his neighbour Mike Sugrue - with all of whom he enjoyed a witty rapport.
