James (Jimmy) Caulfield

Renmore, Galway / Athlone, Westmeath

On Sunday 1st March 2026, James passed away peacefully, in the wonderful care of the staff at Galway Hospice. Predeceased by his sister Mary Geaney (England) in 2000, and brother-in-law Mossie Geaney in 2019.

James spent his life helping others, serving on neighbourhood committees and working at the Galway People’s Resource Centre. His work took him abroad, including the Middle East in the 1960s. He will be dearly missed and always remembered by his niece and nephew, Kate and John, his grand-niece and grand-nephew Miri and Oliver and their partners Astrid and Gary; by his adored friend Alice and the many friends, neighbours and acquaintances he met throughout his life.

 

Funeral Arrangements

Thursday 5th March 2026 : James will lie in repose at 'Áras Naofa' within the grounds of the Church of St. Oliver Plunkett, Renmore from 5 p.m. with Removal at 6 p.m. to the adjacent Church.

 

Friday 6th March 2026 : Requiem Mass will be celebrated for James at 10 a.m. Livestreaming link here . Following Mass, a cremation service will be held in Shannon Crematorium at 1 p.m.

Family flowers only.
