The death has occurred of

James (Jimmy) Nolan

Clondalkin, Dublin / Drimnagh, Dublin

Jimmy Nolan 26 March 1943 – 31 December 2025

Jimmy, our beloved brother, uncle, and friend slipped away from us on New Year’s Eve in the steadfast care of Ryevale Nursing Home, Leixlip. In his 83rd year, unassumingly and quietly as was his wont. Although a lingering illness diminished his capacity in the end he had led a joyful and interesting life.

He was born to Nora and Willie, and grew up in Galtymore Drive, Drimnagh, along with siblings Marie, Colette, Therese, Catherine, Frances, Paddy and Barbara. Later in life he moved to Floraville Lawn in Clondalkin. In both places he led a happy fulfilled and sociable life.

When he finished school he went to work as a junior postman. He did seek adventure in his late teens enlisting in the RAF. He was posted to Cyprus, which he loved, being very comfortable with sunshine. The RAF was less successful for career development, as he was assigned to … delivering mail on the Base.

When he returned home after a 7 year stint he studied by night, got his Leaving Cert and joined the Civil Service, initially as an Executive Officer, and spent a happy lifelong career there.

He loved sports, particularly Horseracing. For decades he, and a like minded group of friends, went to Paris each year for the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe: for the race, and an occasional glass of red. The guys also went trekking annually, covering several Massifs.

Jimmy’s other big area of interest and skill set was quizzes and quizzing, at which he was extremely adept and competitive, reaching national TV level.

He was a most generous person, including pocket money to nieces and nephews!

We will miss him greatly.

Jimmy will repose at the Brian McElroy Funeral Home, Monastery Road, Clondalkin Village on Wednesday (7th January) from 10.30am to 12.30pm.

A celebration of Jimmy's life will take place at 1pm in The Temple, Newlands Cross Crematorium on Wednesday (7th January) followed by cremation.
