Joan KENNEDY
(née Claxton)

Joan Kennedy (née Claxton), 27 Avondale Drive, Hanover, Carlow, and formerly of Fonthill, Co. Carlow, died on 20th of December 2025, peacefully in St. Luke’s Hospital, Kilkenny, surrounded by her loving family.

Predeceased by her father Paddy, mother Bridget (née Maher), and husband Thomas (Toss).

Joan’s passing is deeply regretted by many who she loved and who loved her dearly. Joan leaves behind her loving children Ger, Josephine, Brigid, Pa, and Ivan, her children’s partners Billy Timmons and Louise Clancy and ex-partner Fiona O’Connor, her cherished and adored grandchildren Paul and James, Sarah and Ciara, Ben and Sam, and Billy, her great-grandchildren Kade and Kody, Ollie, and Ellie Rose, Millie, and Luan, and her nephews, nieces, extended family, and large circle of great friends and neighbours.

Joan will repose at Carpenters Funeral Home Shamrock Sq., Carlow on Monday, December 22nd from 4pm, concluding with prayers at 8.30pm; after which, Joan will be removed to her residence in Hanover. Joan’s residence is open to the public on Tuesday from 3pm until 7pm for those who wish to pass on their respects, offer their support, and/or express their own grief.

 

Removal from her residence on Wednesday (Christmas Eve) at 9.30am, to the Cathedral of the Assumption, Carlow, arriving for Funeral Mass at 10am, followed by burial in St. Fintan’s Cemetery, Ballinabranna, Carlow.

The family thanks Joan’s Doctor, Sonia Culda, who gave her expert care in her final years, the great staff in the I.C.U. in Waterford Hospital for giving her extra time, and the wonderful medical staff in the Barrow Ward in St. Luke’s Hospital, Kilkenny, who gave her tender care in her final weeks. We are forever grateful for your kind treatment.
