John Cunneen

The death has occurred of

John Cunneen

Portmarnock, Dublin

Cunneen John Paul, Portmarnock, Co. Dublin. Left us unexpectedly and peacefully in his sleep on May 9th. He leaves a giant hole in the lives of so many. John (to his friends) was dealt a bad hand at birth that he played with courage, determination and fortitude throughout his life. The irony is that after a serious illness last year, he never seemed to be in better health. There are so many things to remember him including an encyclopedic memory for moments from his childhood, his generosity and kindness, stubbornness (he called it determination), his love for Star Wars, Manchester United, Oasis, Nirvana and oh-so-funny quick wit and sarcastic commentary for all and sundry. Family meant everything to John, sharing inside jokes with each member while roasting another one at the same time. His two nieces are too young to know how much they were loved by him, but Maggie and Louise brought sunshine to his life every day. John is sorely missed by his loving parents, Pat and Conor, grieving sister Amy, brother-in-law Phil, grandmother, aunts, uncles, cousins, so many supportive friends and his work colleagues in AIB.

“Cause all of the stars
Are fading away
Just try not to worry
You'll see them someday” - Oasis

We’ll see you again some day, John Paul. Walk tall now, dear son and brother!

You were taken from us too soon.

Reposing in Staffords Funeral Home, Golf Links Road, Portmarnock on Saturday, 17th May, from 3pm to 5pm. A Service to celebrate John’s life will take place in Dardistown crematorium chapel on Monday, 19th May, at 10am. Family flowers only please. Donations, if desired, to Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus Ireland.

As John loved supporting Man United, Ireland and Cork City, his family have asked that you wear some soccer memorabilia – yes, even the non-believers as John called you - Liverpool, Leeds etc. at the respective services. He is laughing at the idea right now!
