And Wilmette, Illinois, USA. John F. O’Connor, 79, passed away peacefully on June 9, 2018. A devoted husband, he is survived by his wife Roslyn to whom he was married for 43 years; he is also survived by daughters Catherine (Adam) Hurley and Barbara O’Connor and grandchildren Harper and James Hurley, sisters Veronica Ryan and Sister Teresa O’Connor and brother Monsignor Albert O’Connor. He is predeceased by his parents Patrick and Mary Catherine O’Connor, sisters Dorothy and Maura, brother Canon Patrick O’Connor.

 

Born in Tuam, County Galway, Ireland, John came to the United States at the age of 19 and soon started what would be a 30-year career working for American Express Travel Services – a job that took him around the world. He lived in London, New York City, Honolulu, Los Angeles, San Diego, Copenhagen and Toronto before finally settling in Chicago in 1984. He also worked at Glenview State Bank for many years. John loved golf, crossword puzzles, a walk on the beach and was delighted by his grandchildren.

 

The family will receive guests Thursday, June 14, 2018 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. at Donnellan Family Funeral Home, 10045 Skokie Boulevard at Old Orchard Road, Skokie, Illinois 60077.
