JOHN FLAVIN

Rusheen, Ballylongford, Kerry / Garvagh, Derry

John Flavin died, peacefully at residence in London, early on Thursday evening 18th August 2022 surrounded by his loving family. A native of Rusheen, Ballylongford, in North Kerry, where he grew up and was one of seven siblings to the proud parents of the late Mick and Kate Flavin R.I.P..

 

John is survived by his heartbroken wife Maureen (Née O’Hegan  Magheramore Road, Garvagh, Co. Derry) daughter Anita, son Mark, Granddaughters: Kiya and Reeve Flavin, siblings: Mick, Jojo, Smiler, Margaret, Chris and Ted, family relatives and wide circle of friends, former work colleagues, neighbours and friends both in the U.K., Ireland and further afield.

John's love of sport was a lifelong passion, especially his love of G.A.A. Football and was a shining light on the Kerry Minor Football team who won the 1962 All Ireland Final defeating Mayo where he has the proud distinction of holding an un equaled record whereby he scored the first point in the first ever live televised coverage of an All-Ireland Minor Final shown on RTE.

 

In 1967 John joined the construction union then UCATT; he served in every position (except that of general secretary) and, over many decades, fought to improve workers’ pay and conditions and more specifically, for greater regulation around health and safety in the workplace.

 

John’s Funeral will take place in London

 

Funeral Arrangements:  John’s funeral will take place in England on next Tuesday 13th September. Requiem Mass will be celebrated at St John of Jerusalem Church,38 Circus Road, London NW8 9SE at 12.45pm, followed by Cremation and a celebration of John’s Life at East Chapel, West London Crematorium 679-681 Harrow Road, London at 2.30pm followed by Reception at The Queens Arms 1 Kilburn High Road North Maid Vale NW6 5SE at 3.30pm.
