John J. Hickey

John Joseph Hickey of Blauvelt, NY died on October 4, 2019 at the age of 76.  John was originally from Newmarket-on-Fergus in County Clare, Ireland.  In 1962, he emigrated to the USA at the age of 19 to New Your City.  On May 5, 1966, he married Pauline O' Hara from County Sligo and lived in Woodside Queens.  In 1977, his family moved to Blauvelt, NY.  For over 50 years, John worked as a manager of the Aquatics Dept at the New York Club (NYAC) before retiring. 

He is survived by his wife, Pauline, and their three children:- Bernadette, Vincent and John.  He is lovingly remembered by his grandchildren:- Colin, Vincent, Caitlyn, Muriel and Chelsea as well as his siblings:-Mary Schlitt, Patrick Hickey and Michael Hickey of Ennis.  He is predeceased by his oldest brother Michael, who died at 20 months old, and by his sisters Teresa Malone and Shelia Heyeck.  

John will be remembered for his positive outlook on life and his passion for golf.  He loved coming back home to Fenloe to spend time with his neighbours and cousins. 

He will be buried with his parents, Denis and Margaret Hickey, in Fenloe Graveyard in Co. Clare, Ireland overlooking the thatched cottage in Muckanaugh, where he was born.  

Reposing at Mc Mahon's Funeral Home, Newmarket-on-Fergus, this  Friday evening (October 18th) from 6.00pm to 7.30pm, followed by removal to the Holy Rosary Church Newmarket-On-Fergus. Funeral Mass Saturday morning at 11.00am.  Burial immediately afterwards in Fenloe Cemetery.
