John Joseph (Joe) Gibbons

The  death has occurred suddenly of John Joseph (Joe)  (Pard) Gibbons, Garryduff Park, Castlebar and formerly of Staball, Castlebar – unexpectedly at Mayo University Hospital,  following a short illness. Dearly loved husband of the late Bridie (nee Gorman) who died in February 2016.  He is also predeceased  by his sister Eileen. He will be sadly missed by his loving family ; son Russell,  daughters Jennifer and Johanne,  daughter-in-law Fiona,  sons-in-law Alan and David; his six adoring grandchildren Ethan,  Caoimhe, Ryan, Jamie,  Aaron and Fionn,  his sister Marion UK,  sisters-in-law,  brothers-in-law,  nephews,  nieces, cousins,  relatives and many friends.

Joe is a retired member of the staff of Telecom Eireann and he was held in very high regard in the community.  An accomplished sportsman in his youth, he played  with  distinction for Castlebar Mitchels, winning county senior football championship medals with the club in 1959 and 1962.  A tough and fearless corner back,  Joe  was regarded by his peers as a superb footballer with fine leadership qualities.

Reposing at the Kilcoyne Funeral Home, Thomas Street, Castlebar on Thursday evening from 6pm with removal at 8pm to the Church of the Holy Rosary arriving at 8.30pm. Mass on Friday at 12.30pm with the funeral proceeding to Shannon Crematorium arriving for Committal Service at 4pm. House strictly private please.
