John O’ Brien (Retired Prison Officer, Portlaoise Prison) of 38 Avondale Drive, Hanover, Carlow and Lanzarote, Spain, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully surrounded by his loving family, on March 14th, 2026 at Portlaoise Regional Hospital, Co Laois.

Predeceased by his nephew David

Beloved father of Kate and Sean, much loved brother of Lorraine, Eddie, Alan and the late Martin, treasured partner of Linda and cherished son of the late Teresa and Murt.

Remembered by his children Kate and Sean, son-in-law Damien, partner Linda, brothers, sister, sisters-in-law Marie and Charlene, aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, extended family, relatives and friends.

May John’s Gentle Soul Rest In Peace

John will repose at Carpenter Bros Funeral Home, Shamrock Sq (R93 C863) on Wednesday March 18th from 4pm concluding with Prayers at 7pm that evening. Removal from there on Thursday morning at 11.45am to The Cathedral of the Assumption, Carlow arriving for Funeral Mass at 12 Noon. Burial afterwards in St Mary’s Cemetery, Carlow
